For more than a decade, she worked as a staff writer and correspondent for the Los Angeles Times in California and New York City. Ms. Knowlton also spent more than a decade as a medical writer and contributing editor for the Psychiatric Times, a national trade journal.
Overall, she has had more than 900 articles published in the popular and scientific press.
With an MA in psychology specializing in research methods and an MFA in creative nonfiction, Ms. Knowlton is now completing a memoir-in-essays and creating a nonfiction narrative podcast titled Summer Bitch, a multi-generational drama that spans more than two centuries of history on Maine’s Penobscot Bay. She resides in the greater New York City area with her husband Richard Oram, six turtles and a Maine Coon cat named Carl, and lives in summer on Deer Isle in Maine.
